Academic ethics have always been a pivotal issue when addressing the imperatives of a healthy and integrity-based educational system. Nowadays, probably more than ever, the exigency for ethical conduct is even more compelling as the pandemic has entailed novel discussions on the grey areas in teaching and research due to the higher dependency on the online environment.
“Academic Ethics in the Post-Pandemic Context” is the name of the Masterclass that took place on the 18th of October, which was organized by the team of the CNFIS-FDI-2022-0051 project “Academic Excellence”, being addressed to teachers, lectors, assistants, and PhD students, both from the Faculty of Management or from other faculties that are part of SNSPA.
The workshop was moderated by Prof. Dumitru Borțun, a Professor at the National University of Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest – SNSPA. The first step before educating the students is to educate our teachers, so this Masterclass aimed to underline the qualities and skills that a teacher should have/acquire. From the multitude of debated ideas, some recommendations and great ideas have been collected regarding the addressed topic, including that:
- Teamwork should be promoted and respect should be thought to students, being the only way to prepare them to become citizens;
- To stop labeling, to be empathetic and wise by reformulating our demands;
- To form a culture of promise through our everyday actions;
- To promote contractual morality and not transactional one;
- To promote the idea of fairness, as being fair is not a shame but a proof of strength and discipline;
- To promote fairness and equality, especially among students;
- To understand better the concept of distributive justice, through the fair sharing of tasks
The workshop ended with a series of questions and answers.
