The relationship between academia and business, especially for research advances in economic sciences, represents more than a desiderate. It accentuates the idea that development is a focal point of both business and European policies and that the issue is tackled from a strategical perspective at both levels. Also, it argues that there is a vital connection between business and academia, showing that the literature points to a solid causal relationship between the entrepreneurial knowledge of the manager and the performance of the company they lead. This reiterates the importance of building strong ties between researchers, academia (teaching), and people taking on the role of managing organizations, stressing the role that formal and informal education play for growing businesses. Finally, innovation is presented as an essential pillar of development, and the author shows an untapped potential concerning research on innovation at the EU level.
One of the study’s main takeaways is an inventory of the management research interests connected to governmental priorities, offering business development opportunities in the following years, and that are also eligible to receive funding through programs such as Horizon 2020.
